The ocular prosthesis is used in the functional and esthetic rehabilitation of acquired loss of an eye or congenital maldevelopment of the eye.
The ocular prosthesis is custom made (to measure), individually for each patient. This is essential, because prefabricated (stock) prostheses can never achieve optimal results.
We manufacture our prostheses with modern medical grade acrylic polymers.
In cases when wearing of the prosthesis is not possible, because of orbital / socket disease, previous trauma or surgery, we first need to surgically reconstruct the anophthalmic orbit.
In some cases, the diseased eye does not have to be surgically removed, even though it is esthetically disfigured. In those situations we can fit a scleral shell, to cover the diseased eye.
